This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, Position Description Number D1287000, within the CSMS A/1 of the New Jersey Army National Guard. This vacancy announcement is a Title 32, Excepted Service position. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

Major duties

As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER, WL-5801-10, you will: Assign work orders to specific crew members and select workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Check work in progress and when finished for compliance with supervisor's instructions, work orders, and established shop procedures on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines; and direct other workers to follow supervisor's instructions and to meet deadlines. Troubleshoot and perform maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles. Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems. Performs other duties as assigned.

What you need to qualify

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work as a surface maintenance mechanic. Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed as a surface maintenance mechanic. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 24 months of experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, provide guidance, and lead the work of others in fields directly related to the repair function of mobile equipment maintenance; and must have the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment.
