Major duties

You will apply knowledge of professional engineering and scientific principles including motion, energy, force, and material properties to manage the full technical design, modeling, prototyping, production, operation, maintenance. You will apply knowledge of professional engineering and scientific principles including disposal of complex mechanical systems and components, ensuring they function safely, reliably, and economically. You will analyze, develop, and manage numerous complex engineering projects and resources simultaneously, applying project management tools and methods to schedule, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate technical performance. You will check designs, specifications, and drawings produced by other engineers and contractors, verifying that they comply with minimum standards for format, safety, functionality, structural strength, and strict compliance with military standards. You will prepare cost estimates, scope project magnitudes, establish manufacturing criteria, advise on necessary manpower/skill balance, conduct market research, and prepare acquisition documentation to contract out engineering equipment. You will identify and nevaluate complex problems, weigh the relevance/accuracy of data, generate alternative solutions, and make timely engineering recommendations or choose courses of action that balance the interests of the mission. You will clearly present and promote varied ideas and technical issues (to include sensitive or controversial topics) before a wide range of audiences, deliver convincing oral presentations, and collaborate actively w/all stakeholders, and others.

What you need to qualify

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying mechanical engineering principles (motion, energy, force, materials) to the design, development, prototyping, and life-cycle management of complex mechanical systems; Verifying, interpreting, and validating specifications, engineering drawings, and mechanical designs to ensure compliance with minimum standards; Developing project cost estimates, scoping project magnitudes, conducting market research, and preparing acquisition/contracting documentation for equipment purchases and engineering services; AND Analyzing complex technical anomalies, formulating alternative solutions, and delivering convincing oral presentations on engineering projects to all stakeholders including team members, leadership and customers.
