Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Tucson Sector, Mission Readiness Operations, located in Tucson AZ. Additional selections may be made for other organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

Major duties

In this position, you will perform a variety of administrative, research, and analytical duties and special assignments in support of Mission Readiness Operations (MRO). This work directly enhances the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of sector- and USBP-wide program operations and administrative workflows, helping ensure mission and personnel requirements are met across the organization. This position starts at a salary of $51,417.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $81,765.00 (GS-09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $81,765.00 (GS-9 Step 10). Typical duties include: Assisting in providing direct advice and guidance to USBP employees at headquarters and throughout the sector and independently coordinating the work of the assigned office for all administrative duties to include budget, inventory, property, fleet, workforce management, workers compensation, payroll, and travel. Serving as the assigned sector supplies specialist and facilitating tracking and support in maintaining vehicle board with current mileage, assigned agent, and next service due; arranging for delivery of tires, oil, and filters from the sector for local repairs and service; and arranging to shuttle vehicles to and from local garages for scheduled service in accordance with agency guidelines and supervisor guidance. Completing monthly purchase card statement reconciliation. Scheduling bulk fuel deliveries; receiving invoices in Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP); and arranging for payment on the bulk fuel purchase card.

What you need to qualify

FOR GS-07: Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Preparing reports by utilizing databases and automated systems. Developing tracking and filing systems for incoming and outgoing documents. Performing physical inventory and reporting inventory status. Conducting analysis of data used by management. OR Education Substitution GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. OR A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required. It is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average (i.e., GPA 3.0 or higher of a possible 4.0, excluding pass/fail credits. Pass/fail credits cannot be more than 10% of total credits), or (3) honor society membership. Review Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) to see if you qualify under this provision. FOR GS-09: Experience: You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Developing and delivering briefings to managers to foster understanding and acceptance of findings and recommendations. Collecting, reviewing, amending, and certifying time and attendance for employees. Processing invoices of purchases with the agency's fleet card. Assisting in researching, developing, and analyzing internal policies. OR Education Substitution GS-09: Successful completion of a master's degree, two full years of graduate education leading to such a degree, or a J.D. or LL.B may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 07/06/2026.
