This vacancy is for a GS-1801-13, DISTRICT TOWING VSL PRGM SPEC located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, D8 INSPECTIONS and INVESTIGATIONS BRANCH -DPI in NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana.
Major duties
You will serve as a DISTRICT TOWING VSL PRGM SPEC and be responsible for coordinating all Towing Vessel Inspection Program Activities in the District's twenty-six state area of responsibility. You will be responsible to the Chief of Prevention to ensure that the program is carried out in accordance with the Headquarters, Area and District directives. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Serves as the primary representative within the Heartland District, and advises leadership on all matters related to the inspection of towing vessels and all towing vessel safety activities within the district Provides program oversight and direction to towing vessel inspection field personnel in the continual analysis of all matters pertaining to towing vessel inspections Establishes and maintains continuing liaison and cooperative relations with other Federal, state and local agencies to promote acceptance and understanding of Coast Guard laws, regulations, standards and objectives Plans and conducts evaluations of on-site towing vessel safety examination, education and consultative services administered by District unit and third party examiners and inspectors Provides specific technical assistance, advice and program consultation as well as proper classification of violations and citations, and resolution of complex and unprecedented safety and health hazards that have a broad impact on the towing industry Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application. What you need to qualify
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Qualified marine inspector; towboat inspector qualification Engaging with public stakeholders of all viewpoints; proficient at speaking/presenting at maritime industry events Proficient and/or familiar with ISO 9001 standards; proficient with utilizing a quality management system like Mission Management System (MMS) NOTE: All experience statements (i.e., duties, specialized experience, or related applicable assessment) copied from this announcement and pasted into your resume will not be considered as a demonstration of your qualifications for this position.
