Major duties

You will serve as a working leader over the wastewater collection system to include gravity lines, force mains, wastewater pumping stations, and associated appurtenances. You will assign and explain work requirements and operating instructions to maintenance crews and advise on established deadlines. You will assure safety and housekeeping rules are followed, machine capacities are not exceeded and proper safety equipment and tools are used. You will work from blueprints, building plans, utility drawings, and sketches to plan and lay out routing, placement, and slope for proper operation of the system and equipment. You will monitor flow and levels within the gravity system and lift station operation using telemetry and visual inspections.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ability to Supervise or Lead: in the operation, maintenance, repair, and construction of wastewater collection systems, including pumping facilities, piping, pumps, motors, valves, and related equipment. Candidates should be able to evaluate system performance, adjust pumping operations, and ensure routine maintenance meets regulatory standards. Technical knowledge of motors, controls, basic electrical testing, and utility system operations is required, along with skill in using mechanical and electrical tools and applying construction mathematics for installation and repair work. planning, organizing, and supervising work, selecting proper replacement parts, operating pipeline inspection equipment, and ensuring compliance with wastewater system codes and safety regulations. Strong leadership abilities are essential, including the capacity to train staff, oversee maintenance and construction tasks, and implement proper safety procedures for confined spaces, fall protection, traffic control, hazardous materials, trenching, lockout/tagout, and respiratory protection.
