Maintenance Mechanic Assistant Supervisor

The position is in the Architect of the Capitol, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Facilities Operations Division, Mechanical Systems Branch.
Major duties
The incumbent serves as a Maintenance Mechanic Assistant Supervisor, and shares responsibility with the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor for planning, scheduling, and coordinating work operations; and solving problems related to the work performed by Pipefitters, Insulators, Welders, Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanics, Industrial Equipment Mechanics, Maintenance Mechanic Workers, and/or Maintenance Mechanic Helpers in the Mechanical Systems Branch. The tour of duty is Monday-Friday 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Note: This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations. The Maintenance Mechanic Assistant Supervisor is required to report to work during emergencies and inclement weather situations. Tour of duty may include holidays and weekends on a regular or recurring basis. Rotating shift work may also be required at management's discretion. Duties include, but are not limited to: Participate with the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor in performing administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates. Assign duties to subordinates, and assist in evaluating their performance. Develop performance requirements for subordinates and ensure a mutual understanding of the performance standards. Resolve complaints and grievances as delegated by higher level supervisors. Provides leadership to ensure support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements. Make recommendations to the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor concerning personnel matters such as employment and promotion; initiate disciplinary actions; schedule and approve leave; and keep time and attendance records. Make preventative maintenance inspections, major overhauls, installations and emergency repairs to exhaust fans, steam operated kitchen equipment, heating equipment, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, humidifiers, pneumatic or digital controls, hot water generators, and other equipment. Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of high temperature water and high-pressure piping systems such as, steam heating, and steam-generating systems. Work with Plumbers and Pipefitters and A/C Equipment Mechanics to perform required maintenance, inspections and repairs. Order and accept deliveries, counts stock, and loads and unloads trucks. Performs other related duties as assigned.
