Major duties

HUD's Mission The mission of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is to foster strong communities by supporting access to quality, affordable housing, expanding the housing supply, and unlocking homeownership opportunities for the American people. The Department is committed to furthering the promise of self-sufficiency in every American while promoting economic development to revitalize rural, tribal, and urban communities across the country. This position is located in the Office of Public and Indian Housing (PIH). PIH's mission is to provide low-income families affordable housing opportunities as they transition to self-sufficiency and homeownership. PIH oversees the administration of HUD's Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher, Section 8 Rental Assistance, and Native American Programs through a staff of Headquarters and Field employees. The field structure for PIH consists of 29 Hub Offices and 16 Program Centers that provide oversight, direct monitoring, and coordination for approximately 4,200 public housing authorities. As a Housing Program Specialist, you will: - Review and analyze mission-oriented programs, policies, and program data to support the development of plans, policy initiatives and management reports administered and managed by either the Office of Public Housing or Housing Voucher Programs. - Apply knowledge of assisted public housing programs and voucher procedures and assists in preparing recommendations for statutory changes. - Analyze new or proposed program policies and their impact on assisted housing policies and prepares summary reports and recommendations addressing program improvements. - Develop written reports and present written or oral briefs to higher-level managers on recommendations and status of policy issues or comprehensive evaluative studies.

What you need to qualify

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position is defined as: - Providing recommendations that impact pending legislation, regulations, or guidelines regarding city, county, state or federal low-income housing programs; AND - Assisting in the development of standards, procedures or guidelines on city, county, state or federal low-income housing programs; AND - Communicating changes to internal or external stakeholders regarding city, county, state or federal low-income housing programs. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
