What you'd do
These positions are located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lakewood, Colorado.
Major duties
As a Realty Specialist-GS-1170, your typical work assignments may include, but not limited to: Consults beneficiaries, lessees, other landowners and interested parties about the process options, documentation, and other needs that may be associated with mineral and energy leases, title documents, and/or conveyance activities. Provides accurate, timely, and consistent trust asset information; responsive to inquiries and for reporting purposes. Researches, analyzes, reviews, processes, and provides recommendations on complex or conflicting problems and issues (for various realty transactions) with realty policies, procedures, casework, appeals, title, and reports; provides findings and recommendations on problems/issues. Provides guidance to Supervisor, BIA Regions/Agencies, Operators, and Tribal staff and landowners and beneficiaries. Collaborates and coordinates energy/mineral leasing and conveyance transactions to ensure that the necessary clearances and procedures have been secured and completed (i.e., appraisals, NEPA, TSR, etc.). Implements requirements into realty policies and procedures as required. Performs on-site inspections for compliance and field investigations involving, i.e., realty workloads, trespasses, encroachments, and natural resource damages, as needed to obtain factual data on a possible claim or develop an identified claim.
What you need to qualify
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards). Applicants who meet the following requirement may qualify for the position at the GS-13 level: One year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 providing advice and technical guidance in the areas of land acquisition and management, reviewing lease requests and needs, developing housing strategies for Tribal landowners and governments, planning, coordinating, and managing lease projects and negotiating lease terms for lease acquisition projects, and resolving complicated problems and controversial issues related to real estate. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.
