This vacancy is for an IT Specialist position in the Economic Applications Division located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station. This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other IT Specialist, 2210-13 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

Major duties

Initiating, executing, overseeing, and evaluating projects and advising management concerning the future of the Census Bureau's Secure Cloud strategy, road map, architecture, and engineering similar to AWS Cloud environment. Implementing security requirements, monitors security statuses, and maintains compliance of Cloud solutions with Federal and Census Bureau security policies. Developing operational and architectural artifacts; develops Cloud processes and Standard Operating Procedures, and helps to review/refine Cloud usage patterns to reduce costs. Translating business and non-functional requirements to actionable technical requirements necessary for designing and engineering technical solutions and critical technical engagement services to Census Bureau Cloud customers.

What you need to qualify

To qualify for the position of IT Specialist, at GS-2210-13, you must meet the minimum and/or basic qualification requirements listed below. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Assisting with Cloud architecture design and core services implementation; Completing hands-on operational work in cloud environments utilizing AWS/Azure/Google Cloud/or similar cloud solutions; Developing SOP's and architectural diagrams; Performing automation leveraging infrastructure as code (IaC) solutions or related scripting/PowerShell; Coordinating with vendor partners for problem triage and new solution implementations; and Performing on-premise application workload migrations to Cloud, or similar hands-on cloud technical experience. MS Azure/ AWS/ Google Cloud knowledge preferred. Education: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
