Major duties
Performs warehouse work involving receiving, storing, and shipping a variety of bin and bulk supplies, material, equipment and commodities. Work is usually repetitive and involves unloading, stacking, binning, rotating, and marking stock in accordance with standardized operating instructions. Verifies incoming and outgoing shipping documents. Ensures inventory lists for Camp Pendleton, MCLB Barstow, and MCAS Yuma warehouses remain current. May use automated material identification equipment such as bar code, wands, computer terminals, and laser scanners to select storage locations of items being shipped or received. Uses common hand tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers as well as hand trucks, hand lifts, pallet jacks, dollies, and electric lifts. Responsible for venue setup in support of events across MCB Camp Pendleton, MCLB Barstow, and MCAS Yuma. Loads and transports equipment in a safe and timely manner using a 30-foot enclosed trailer with a GVWR of 13,300 lbs. and appropriate vehicle towing capacity. After events, unloads trailers and properly returns all equipment to the warehouse in an organized and timely manner. Assists with upkeep of the department¿s vehicle fleet, including routine cleaning and coordination of scheduled maintenance and service appointments. Conducts basic pre- and post-operation safety inspections of towing equipment and vehicles to ensure safe operation and compliance with applicable regulations and organizational procedures. Position requires occasional trips to support regional installations to include, but not limited to MCLB Barstow and MCAS Yuma. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you need to qualify
Knowledge of the general warehouse layout, item identification codes, basic warehouse procedures, and storage areas in order to place, pull, move, arrange, and rotate items per established procedures. Ability to complete appropriate forms relating to stock descriptions, quantity, unit of issue, and labeling requirements for incoming and outgoing materials. Ability to use a computer terminal. Skill in the use of manual dollies, electric lifts, and hand tools. Ability to identify obvious damage to materials through visual inspections. A valid forklift license is required with successful completion of trainings and evaluations specified by OSHA within 60 days of hiring. Skill in manipulating the controls for driving vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions. Knowledge of the height, width, length, and weight of the vehicle in order to judge overhead and side clearances, the turning radius, braking distance, and distance to be maintained from other vehicles. Ability to read and understand road maps and to determine shortest and safest route. Knowledge of defensive driving techniques; judgment to select alternate routes to avoid potential problems. Knowledge of State and local safety rules and regulations. Knowledge and skill to load cargo properly onto vehicle. A valid driver's license is required.[AH2.1] Responsibility: Works under guidance of a supervisor or higher graded worker who provides general instruction on repetitive assignments and specific guidance, including written instructions on new operations or procedures. Observes safety procedures for various equipment. Responsible for safely transporting cargo to their destinations throughout the installation. Work is periodically spot-checked. Physical Effort: Stands on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Bends, stoops, and works in tiring and sometime uncomfortable positions. Lifts and carries objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, etc., and injury from falling stock. Must wear issued protective gear. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to danger of serious accidents
