It oversees the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), the largest mortgage insurer in the world, and regulates important parts of the housing industry. The Office of Housing is committed to building and preserving healthy neighborhoods and communities through homeownership, rental housing and healthcare opportunities. As a Supervisory Accountant (Staff), you will: Provide expert advice in specialized area of accounting, developing policies and financial management program goals. Carry out program to determine accounting system adequacy, to identify accounting and budgetary problems, and to develop and maintain progressive fiscal management techniques and practices. Review legislation and regulations. Develop regulations and guidelines for program users. Develop and monitor accounting internal control program(s): identify problem areas, develop solutions to improve operating program effectiveness.

What you need to qualify

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-14 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: Experience using and applying proper budgetary and proprietary accounting associated with the US Standard General Ledger (SGL); AND Directing or overseeing a team of financial management and accounting professionals; AND Developing or approving technical accounting policies and procedural instructions for financial reporting. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
