At the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), we are at the forefront in preventing and detecting terrorist financing, money laundering, and other financial crime. Serve at the nation's financial intelligence unit and protect the United States financial system from criminals and terrorist financiers.

Major duties

This position is located in our Office of Security. As a Personnel Security Specialist, you will: Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, and/or bureau directives that govern FinCEN's personnel security program Determine personnel security requirements, position sensitivity, access to information, and other operational requirements Audit, review and analyze personnel security activities to determine compliance with existing policies and procedures and assess security vulnerabilities Provide expert advice and assistance to FinCEN management, human resources, and security staff on personnel security matters Candidates should be committed to improving the efficiency of the Federal government, passionate about the ideals of our American republic, and committed to upholding the rule of law and the United States Constitution.

What you need to qualify

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: - Making final determinations for the issuance of security clearances or Public Trusts based on information from referrals and background investigations; AND - Investigating, fact-finding, and using evaluation practices and techniques pertaining to personnel security adjudications; AND - Drafting official correspondence related to personnel security adjudications (e.g., case summaries, clearance suspensions, Letters of Inquiry, Letters of Warning, and Statements of Reasons) AND - Providing advice on the development and interpretation of personnel suitability and security guidelines, policies, and regulations.
