SHIPS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR
What you'd do
You will serve as a SHIPS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR in the Non-Nuclear Inspection Branch (Code 1331), Non-Nuclear Inspection Division (Code 133), Quality Assurance Office (Code 130) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Major duties
You will perform arrival inspections of systems/components to determine existing conditions (deficiencies/discrepancies) in support of nuclear reactor plan criticality prior to the start of an overhaul. You will conduct a shop and shipboard test to verify and document component, equipment, and system conformance to rigid specifications for satisfactory operational performance. You will perform electrical/electronic, electro-mechanical and sound isolation inspections on nuclear submarines and nuclear/nonnuclear surface ships. You will perform the receipt inspections of Level I material, Controlled Industrial Material (CIM) and Non-Level material. You will conduct a pre-test/final inspection after the system/component installations are complete.
What you need to qualify
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO INSPECT The ability to perform visual inspections to include fiber optic cables, proper routing of cables, fiber optic connectors, splice trays and equipment, interpreting and applying the technical requirements of blueprints, design sketches, military specifications and manufactures instructions. The ability to work with various equipment such as use of a variety of special precision measuring and inspection devices such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohm meters, meggers, multi-meters, surface comparators, torque gauges, frequency meters, tachometers, oscilloscopes, pressure gauges, wheatstone bridges, kelvin bridges, fiber optic loss test set, optical power meter and stabilized light source, optical return loss meter, and optical time domain reflectometer, etc. The ability to exercise initiative and judgment in performing proper follow-up to assure timely corrective action and skills and knowledge in technical/inspection experience of ships systems, materials, engineering metals and alloys, taking precision measurements and the utilization of technical data to determine required operations of assemblies/components.
