What you'd do

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in one of the SI facilities serviced by the Office of Facilities Management (FM). The Office of Facilities Management is responsible for all Smithsonian facilities, many of which are designated as historic and all of which are visited by millions of people each year.

Major duties

The Supervisory Engineering Technician directs the work of Engineering Technicians responsible for developing condition-based maintenance techniques and provides expert mechanical assistance throughout the Smithsonian Institution portfolio. In this position, you will: Provide overall technical and administrative management and direction for a robust central HVAC maintenance program. Supervise a staff of Engineering Technicians responsible for accomplishing their respective functions Develop guidelines and procedures for the capture and analysis of critical asset/system information necessary to improve data analysis. Communicate with personnel at a variety of levels to convey progress, problems and recommendations. Oversee external communication with Facilities Management Engineering and Construction staff on condition-based maintenance concerns.

What you need to qualify

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service. For this position specialized experience includes activities such as generating plans and objectives for advanced troubleshooting of HVAC systems and electrical/mechanical systems; analytical skills to resolve complex technical conflicting data and display leadership capabilities showing the necessary skill set to lead subordinate technicians. Your resume must be no more than two (2) pages and should clearly demonstrate how your experience aligns with the responsibilities and specialized experience required for this position. Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience.
