Major duties
Assists supervisor by leading and directing subordinates, answering questions, passing on instructions, resolving problems which arise, training new employees, and ensuring the smooth operation of the facility. Responsible for distributing and assigning work primarily on a day-to-day or project-to-project basis. Responsible for the quality and quantity of work performed by the subordinate work force. Motivates employees and encourages training, advancement and continued education. Using accepted trade methods, and techniques, performs journeyman work involving a variety of trades. Constructs, alters, repairs, or modifies items and structures as assigned. Plans and completes work assignments from initial layout to final assembly. Reads, interprets and applies building plans, blueprints, specifications, sketches, and building codes. Computes measurements and makes adjustments to incomplete blueprints, sketches, and work orders to ensure accuracy of fit and finished appearance. Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you need to qualify
Skills and Knowledge: Must have specialized experience working at the Journeyman level of the trade. Must have the ability to use hand and power tool. Must possess knowledge of advance shop mathematics and have the ability to recognize quality work, to read, interpret and apply building plans, specifications, diagrams, blueprints, sketches, and building codes. Must have some knowledge of the Uniform Building Codes. Must demonstrate oral and written communication skills, energy management and conservative efforts. Physical Efforts: Work requires prolonged standing, bending, stretching, reaching, kneeling, and stooping. Frequently required to work in cramped, awkward, flat, vertical, overhead and in hard-to-reach positions. Lifts light to heavy weight objects. Handles a variety of tools, materials, and equipment. Climbs ladders and may perform work from scaffolds. Arm movement is considerable. Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors or inside. Indoor work is subject to cuts from hand or power tool. Subject to inclement weather conditions while working outdoors. There is a danger of falling from ladders or high places. Exposed to the possibility of broken bones, burns, cuts and bruises. May be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, smocks, coats, goggles, gloves or shields.
