What you'd do

This position is located in the Resident Services, Recreation Division at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport MS.

Major duties

As a LIBRARIAN, you will: Provide professional library services to meet the needs of all Residents and employees Maintain materials and aids to assist visually impaired users with Library and reading programs, and in coordination with the Wellness Center for additional vision care Provide classes and programs such as reading publications to visually impaired residents, conducting poetry and or play events, hosting a book club, genealogy groups, computer IPAD classes and monthly meetings for movies As part of the Resident Services team, staff will be required to assist in the Health Check process to ensure the health and well-being of the AFRH residents. What you need to qualify

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé. Qualifications: All librarians must meet at least one of the requirements below. - Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree;OR - A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. AND Specialized Experience for the GS-09: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Specialized Experience for the GS-09: - Experience in interpreting and adapting to guidelines (e.g. library and agency information policies, regulations, operating procedures, and cataloging rules and formats, etc); AND - Experience maintaining up-to-date information for the interests and needs of a geriatric community. OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's in library science or equivalent graduate degree, e.g., LL.B. or J.D., related to the position. OR A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit transcripts with your application. (Graduate education beyond the first 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours can be combined with GS-7 level experience)SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with geriatric patients is highly desired. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
