What you'd do

This position is located in Golden Gate National Recreation Area The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. Incumbent utilizes journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.

Major duties

Duties performed in the position of Maintenance Mechanic WG-4749-09 include but are not limited to: Perform journeyman-level work in multiple trades-primarily carpentry, painting, plumbing, masonry, and roofing-including construction, alteration, repair, layout, and finish work using power/hand tools, shop mathematics, and applicable codes/standards Operate, maintain, and repair water and wastewater systems, including pumps, filters, valves, gauges, chemical feeders, and instrumentation; interpret process data and make adjustments to ensure regulatory compliance. Troubleshoot and perform lower-graded electrical tasks (per plans/diagrams and the National Electrical Code) to install, repair, or replace wiring, controls, fixtures, and minor system components. Operate heavy equipment and vehicles (e.g., graders, tractors/backhoes, dump trucks) and perform road/grounds/asphalt maintenance (grading, patching, crack sealing, drainage upkeep) safely and effectively. Follow safety and compliance requirements (e.g., respirator fit, chemical handling, PPE; outdoor work in varied conditions; documentation) and maintain tools/equipment in safe working order.

Requirements Continued... You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without MoreThan Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
