What you'd do

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Bethel Park at Langley AFB, VA. This is a Temporary position, not to exceed 1 October 2026. This is a flexible position that is guaranteed 0 hours per week but can be scheduled up to 40 hours per week. The primary purpose of this position is to perform and/or assists other recreation assistants or specialist in the operation and maintenance of Bethel Park recreational areas.

Major duties

Sets up recreation areas for scheduled activities; records attendance; takes reservations and payment for events, activities, etc; notifies participants of schedule changes; arranges for equipment or tools, charging them out to participants, and checking them for condition on their return; sets up spaces for scheduled events; checks the established safety system of indoor and outdoor recreation facilities and areas, tools, and equipment; posts announcements of scheduled activities and answers inquiries about item, place, or other matters related to activities scheduled; takes inventory of authorized recreation supplies and equipment; and helps with group activities which require more than one staff monitor, performing specifically assigned tasks. Assists with group activities. Inspects outside areas daily and removes trash/debris from around all buildings and grounds associated with Bethel Park and assigned area. Reports maintenance or construction needs to supervisor. May perform minor repairs and/or adjustments to rental equipment upon return. Records damaged equipment and reports to supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned. Operates automated point of sales terminal; collecting, safeguarding and depositing fees received from customers. Demonstrates basic equipment usage to patrons and ensures safety rules are adhered to. Performs seasonal maintenance and upkeep of grounds and facilities, end-of-season preparation of facilities, equipment, boats, etc. As directed, cleans and restocks restrooms. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Practical knowledge of recreational activities, rules, and procedures. Ability to safeguard and handle cash and skill in the use and maintenance of various recreational equipment and facilities are desirable; however, no experience is required. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry medium to heavy objects up to 40 pounds, and be able to occasionally lift and carry objects up to 60 pounds. Must be able to actively bend, stoop, stand, reach, and work in awkward positions.
