MWR Marketing Technician
What you'd do
This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Support Programs; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC); Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach. The incumbent administers and guides a comprehensive marketing program for the installation and is also responsible for the planning, organizing, contracting, administering and monitoring of the MWR commercial sponsorship program.
Major duties
- Serves as the program's marketing, publicity and commercial sponsorship expert. Provides advice to IPD, program and facility managers regarding most efficient and cost-effective marketing and publicity to meet program goals and objectives. - Coordinates written and verbal communications for a wide variety of media including military newspapers, MWR magazine, newsletters, websites, electronic and static marquees. Coordinates production of publicity materials and coordinates distribution of these materials including press releases and plan of the day notices. Ensures all U.S. Navy public affairs policies are strictly followed. - Responsible for the development of marketing plans and production of marketing campaigns to enhance and promote N9 programs from inception to completion, in accordance with Site policies. This includes research, budgets, resource allocation and communications. - Reviews graphic request submissions for accuracy, viability and pertinence to program objectives. May liaison with the regional graphics department to ensure work is performed in a timely manner and within budget constraints. - Assists with coordination of special events, which may include the annual Air Show, Food Festival, holiday programs, athletic events, grand openings, concerts, runs and other events. Develop marketing plans with program managers including promotional schedules, budgets and plan of action and milestones. Coordinates resources in support of the event including graphics requests, marketing support, and commercial sponsorship. Interfaces with program managers to create a successful event. - Using a digital camera ensures photography support for events both on and off station. Develops and revises visual presentations that include photography, scripting and formatting, which are utilized to promote site activities to commands. - Maintains an MWR database of customers, sponsors and others as required. Ensure that all mailing lists are. Keeps and maintains office logbooks as required. - Responsible for management of the Commercial Sponsorship Program to include, but not limited to, matching events with potential sponsors, determining opportunities for sponsors, preparing proposal packages, sponsorship and advertising solicitations, sponsorship agreements, etc. Responsible for maintaining accounts, record keeping, and follow-up communication with sponsors and advertisers. - Develops proposal packages and negotiate best terms for MWR. Tracks contracts and ensures they are reviewed by legal counsel and signed by designated authority. Ensures the contractual "quid pro quo" is fulfilled through execution of considerations and completion of evaluation/follow-up reports. - Develops after-action reports for major events and proof of performance for advertising sales. Develop advertising sales rate sheets and agreements. Tracks sponsorship considerations and advertising placement to ensure contractual compliance. - Establishes and maintains liaison with existing and potential sponsors, clubs, recreation program managers, key staff personnel, Commands or groups to gather information pertinent to facility programs, services and events to solicit sponsorship and participation. - Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you need to qualify
- Ability to effectively communicate in a variety of methods including written and verbal communications. Must be able to produce press releases, feature articles, work with military and civilian media and understand the principles of public relations. Incumbent must understand grammar, variety of media and military protocol. Incumbent must be able to develop and implement regional and local marketing plans to meet the needs of all segments of the MWR customer base. - Strong knowledge of customer service, diverse and complex customer base. Incumbent should be skilled in evaluating marketing potential and proactive to researching and implementing marketing plans. - Knowledge of a variety of principles, concepts and techniques of marketing, sales, writing, layout and photography. Ability to professionally represent the regional marketing office with media, sponsors, customers and MWR managers and directors. - Knowledge of a computerized desktop publishing system, Internet, advertising and public relations principles and computers is desirable.
