What you'd do

This position is at the full performance level located at the Chillicothe Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC), in Education and Staff Development. The incumbent function as support for the Education and Staff Development service, serving Veterans and employees. The incumbent works independently supporting many different programs, such as scholarships, LEAF request for training, Vocera assignments and turn-ins, New Employee Orientation, library, TMS and other duties as assigned.

Major duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Support and clerical support for processes in New Employee Orientation, Nursing, Record Management, LEAF portal for education and scholarship. Monitor new requests, follow up with requesters for needed input, communicate with fiscal and logistics to complete process. Monitor for any roadblocks in process and assist to overcome. Complete meeting minutes for department staff meetings and other committees. Assist with preparation of material for classroom, meetings or other needed request. Enter and order supplies and purchases for awards and other needs for service line. Assist with vender process completion needed for payment. Responsible for timekeeping duties for Education and Staff Development and Float and Intermittent staff. Assist with resolution of education program issues for individual employees such as access or assignment. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/06/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: In order to qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess the following: Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties the Program Support Assistant at the full performance level (GS-6), and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: providing administrative support; collecting, compiling and tracking data and information; processing documents and reports; establishing, updating and maintaining office files and records; performing automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database and/or graphics; and providing information and customer service. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
