HEALTH PHYSICIST
What you'd do
You will serve as a HEALTH PHYSICIST in the Radiological Control Technician Qualification School Code 105.7 in the Radiological Control Office of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Major duties
You will research and review courses involving radiological controls and Health Physics aspects used in the Radiological training of personnel. You will evaluate shop/code classroom and practical ability training in order to review adequacy, accuracy, effectiveness and adherence to standards. You will review graded written tests and surveil practical tests. You will train and certify other instructors. You will conduct work site surveillances to monitor the effectiveness of training.
What you need to qualify
GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience using knowledge of NAVSEA and local shipyard radiological control procedures, practices, and requirements sufficient to prepare, conduct and review the required training, and to identify non-compliance with established guidelines and to develop new and improved methods when prudent. Experience applying operating principles of naval nuclear reactors, reactor systems, health physics, and applied radiological controls though extensive knowledge of associated fields such as advanced mathematics, statistics, radiobiology, nuclear physics, the interaction of ionizing radiation with living tissue and non-viable material substances, and knowledge of techniques used in detecting and measuring ionizing radiation with living tissue and non-viable material substances Experience developing and implementing instructional courses for professional and technical level applications through extensive knowledge of the functions and objectives of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and of the Radiological Control Office. Experience applying thorough knowledge of applied radiological controls to evaluate the adequacy, in actual work or training of monitoring procedures, protective clothing, dosimetry and potential environmental impact Experience performing the ability to use all portable and waterfront laboratory instruments for detecting ionizing radiation to thoroughly explain the functions and analyze for proper usage. Experience using techniques in detecting and measuring ionizing radiation with living tissue and non-viable material substances with knowledge of associated fields such as advanced mathematics, statistics, radiobiology, nuclear physics, the interaction of ionizing radiation with living tissue and non-viable material substances. Experience using all portable and waterfront laboratory instruments for detecting ionizing radiation to evaluate radiation exposure data, do assessments, and risk evaluations to thoroughly explain the functions and analyze for proper usage.
