This vacancy is for a WG - 4749-10,Maintenance Mechanic located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, CG ACADEMY PUBLIC WORKS SECTION in NEW LONDON, Connecticut.

Major duties

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-10 and be responsible for preventative, emergency, and routine service work as a Maintenance Mechanic in refrigeration, heating ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing trades throughout the grounds. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Logging expenditures of time and materials; and scheduling, accomplishing, and recording completion of work tasks. Following established preventative maintenance schedules and manufactures maintenance instructions. Repairing and maintaining large air conditioning systems that performs a variety of functions including heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating. Installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility supply and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Maintaining, repairing, and installing as necessary water distribution systems and components.

To qualify for the Maintenance Mechanic, WG-4749-10, applicants must meet the following screen-out job element to be considered for this position: - Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT) - Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. - Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) - Use of measuring instruments - Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) - Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment - Knowledge of materials Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
