What you'd do

About the Position: This position is located at Bldg. 4389 Beaufort Rd in the Materiel Management Warehouse and is temperature controlled. Work is performed 8 hours per day, M-F (except Federal holidays) within core hours of 0700-1630.

Major duties

Receive and store specialized materials, equipment and medical gases for a medical facility. Manage and dispose of hazardous waste and materials in accordance with policies and procedures. Inspect materials prior to receiving for safe handling of hazardous property. Maintain accountability of property until a determination is made for proper disposal. Utilize computer applications, such as, Wide Area Workflow (WAWF), Defense Medical Logistics Support Systems (DMLSS), word processing, spreadsheet, and database design systems to manage equipment and materials.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MATERIALS HANDLER ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to unload a variety of materials delivered to a medical treatment facility. I am able to inspect materials for verification and condition. I am skilled in sorting and storing materials in a warehouse setting. I can move items manually with various types of equipment and with vehicles. I have the ability to use computerized logistics systems to manage incoming and outgoing materials. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Handle Weights and Loads Ability to Inspect Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Information Management Knowledge of Materials Physical Effort-Materials Handlers are required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time and to bend, stoop and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. Lifting items that weigh up to 8 kilograms (40pounds), heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from others. Working Conditions-Work is accomplished inside or outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty or poorly lighted. Materials Handlers are exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls and injury from falling slack. There is routine exposure to dust, dirt, grease, high noise levels in mechanized work areas and is routinely subject to exposure to toxins or chemical fumes. Safety shoes and protective goggles are a requirement of the position.
