Major duties
As a MACHINIST (Temp Promo-OBO) - Title 32, WG-3414-12, you will serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with responsibility for the overall operation of a small shop. The position oversees one or more workers who perform work as Machinist, WG-3414-11. Performs the full range of non-supervisory work of the shop. *At management's discretion, this Temporary Promotion may be made permanent without further competition in accordance with 5CFR 335.103(c)(1)(i)
What you need to qualify
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with a basic knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers and other types of associated machine tools. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the WG-3414-12 level, applicant must have at least 18 months experience or training performing a full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. Experience or training in planning and lay out work from blueprints, worksheets and other drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Skill in applying shop mathematics in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to be machined. Skill in programming machining operations, setting up and operating CNC machine tools. Knowledge of and ability to apply advanced shop mathematics such as geometric and trigonometric formulas to make computation for laying out work, machining pieces at unusual or compound angles, determining gear ratios pitch, angles and other similar exact or precision dimension. The ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series.
