This position is located in the Department of HUD Assistant Secretary for Housing, Federal Housing Commissioner, with Department of Housing & Urban Development.

The Office of Housing provides vital public services through its nationally administered programs. It oversees the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), the largest mortgage insurer in the world, and regulates important parts of the housing industry. The Office of Housing is committed to building and preserving healthy neighborhoods and communities through homeownership, rental housing and healthcare opportunities. As a Correspondence Specialist, you will: Perform performing administrative and/or program support work related to correspondence/FOIA control and review, such as planning, research, analysis, communication, clearance, and/or liaison. Guides staff, assigns work, establishes priorities and provides training for Departmental staff. Manage and/or prepare responses to correspondence of the Office of Housing; and/or acts as a liaison or handles the communication with persons and/or groups within and outside of the organization under the supervision of the Supervisory Correspondence Specialist. Serve as primary liaison between the Office and program offices and office staff.

What you need to qualify

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: Identifying and analyzing the key issues in proposed regulations, standards, or guidelines.; AND Analyzing the economic impact, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of existing and/or proposed environmental standards, regulations, programs, and policies; AND Reviews a wide variety of incoming correspondence and documents addressed to the Assistant Secretary; AND Researches issues, determines appropriate routing and disposition and ensures that background information is provided to action office. OR Education: You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related OR You may qualify by a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. Only graduate level education in excess of 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. OR Combination: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the specialized experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the education requirement must equal at least 100 percent. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your resume. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-11 you must have been at the GS-09 level for 52 weeks. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
