What you'd do
About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center located at Fort Hood, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Positions may be filled in various departments within the medical center. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Student Loan Repayment may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.
Major duties
Complete screening of patients to include recording chief complaint, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, weight, measure and record intake and output, and notify a medical professional of abnormal readings. Apply antiseptic solution for immunizations/skin testing; apply and remove bandages, binders, simple dressings, and hot and cold packs; and physically assist patients in walking, moving, and changing positions. Perform general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging supply carts; cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment; reporting deficiencies in supplies and equipment; and cleaning utility rooms. Screen and administer standard immunizations; and observe and report any signs or symptoms of impending reactions, documenting accordingly. Receive requests for appointment by telephone or in person; obtain information required to determine appropriate action; schedule appointments with the appropriate clinic and health care provider; and maintain waiting lists. Obtain urine samples; perform urine dipsticks and finger sticks for blood glucose; input lab requests; and direct the patient to the lab or perform and document mini lab results.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Health Technician: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes obtaining vital signs, educating patients, and scheduling appointments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, such as Health Sciences. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
