RIGGER (DIVER)
What you'd do
You will serve as a RIGGER (DIVER) in the Diver Support Branch (Code 970A), Divers Division (Code 970), Production Department (Code 900), of MID ATLANTIC REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CTR.
Major duties
You will rig and move objects through confined and/or underwater areas where cranes or other mobile material handling equipment cannot be used. You will set up and operate equipment used in diving operations, observing all safety requirements set forth in the USN Diving Manual. You will perform preventative maintenance in accordance with USN PMS program. You will perform underwater inspection and repair of all types of naval vessels.
What you need to qualify
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION Experience performing surface and underwater rigging, structural repairs, and mechanical maintenance on vessels or marine structures. Experience planning, laying out, assembling, repairing, and installing complex weight-handling gear and rigging systems. Experience conducting preventative and corrective maintenance on diving support systems and lifelines (such as air compressors, diving helmets, SCUBA gear, and gas/diesel engines). Experience handling underwater explosives or explosive countermeasures in support of submarine or marine defense operations. Experience utilizing hydraulic, pneumatic, and hand-operated tools in underwater environments to perform cutting, grinding, drilling, or structural inspections.
