Maintenance Worker
What you'd do
This position is located in Petrified Forest National Park in the Facility Management Division.
Major duties
Working largely without direct supervision, operates and performs minor maintenance on a variety of vehicles Position operates front end loaders to load trucks, stockpile material, clean ditches and clean up storm damage Equipment is operated at times in difficult terrain, congested roads and in extreme weather conditions Responsible for pre-start inspections of equipment as well as minor repairs and preventative maintenance Performs mostly concrete and plaster touch up around existing historic and other masonry structures Prepares vails with lathing or wire mesh for a fibered plaster or construction plaster (white top) Performs welding duties utilizing MIG, TIG, Stick Flux Cored Arc, or Oxy-Fuel welding techniques Manually dig ditches and holes in support of heavy engineering and construction activities Performs flagging duties to control traffic for road maintenance activities Petrified Forest National Park is located in northeastern Arizona 26 miles east of Holbrook, AZ. The Park has a concessions operation which includes a curio shop and restaurant. Beyond this, other services are not available in the Park. Some shopping opportunities exist in Holbrook. Greater shopping opportunities exist in Flagstaff, AZ (110 miles west) or Gallup, NM (70 miles east). Year-round recreational opportunities abound within a short commuting distance. Elementary, junior and senior high schools are located in Holbrook.

Requirements Continued... As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1 year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. This position requires the occupant to be proficient in at least 2 of the following methods of welding: MIG, TIG, Stick Flux Cored Arc, or Oxy-Fuel welding techniques. (SCREEN OUT) To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker, WG- 4749-8 without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Knowledge of Materials If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.
