Transportation Assistant
What you'd do
This position is organizationally located in the VTS Veteran Transportation Service Section of the Business Office, providing administrative support for the Medical Center's Interfacility transfer and travel process. The Patient Transfer/Transportation Coordinator is responsible for arranging the safe transfer of patients to and from Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities and non-VA facilities.
Major duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to: Processes beneficiary travel claims utilizing the BTSSS, ECAMS, IPPS and HSRM programs. Coordinates and monitors the patient transfers throughout the process, intervening when necessary to ensure a positive outcome. Works with community facilities, other VA facilities and other veteran organizations to coordinate patient transportation. Tracks denied transfers/transportation for Mobility Manger to review. Initiates and coordinates Patient transportation accurately and timely, as required for scheduled appointments with various services and clinics at outside facilities and other VA Medical Centers. Assists patients in the rescheduling of appointments for travel. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 7:30am-4:00pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/10/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performing transportation support duties such as coordinating connections/scheduling, documenting travel information; collecting, compiling, and tracking data on a daily basis; Performs a basic analysis of data and generates a variety of reports; entering data into automated tracking data bases; and planning and directing a program that provides support services. Customer service: interact with the public, resolving customer concerns and complaints.
