Major duties

Perform field site visits to active construction sites and works with field personnel in project offices to assist in solving unforeseen problems related to soil mechanics encountered during construction. Develop geotechnical designs including shallow and deep foundation analysis, and slope stability and seepage analysis and determine best system to be used for structure foundation. Additionally coordinate with other engineers Conducts scientific studies of subsurface materials for use in determining the suitability of these materials for the construction of different structures. Review and provide guidance on work completed by others to ensure technical accuracy, adequacy, and completeness, including evaluation of data contained in existing project reports, maps, drawings, survey, and core boring reports. Reviews all applicable sections of reports prepared by AE firms to assure compliance with all Corps of Engineers regulations.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. The program must: lead to a degree in a school with at least one program accredited by ABET. Degree must be documented on a transcript. OPM General Schedule Qualification Standards - GS-0800 Series - https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#0800 In addition to Qualification standards you must have specialized experience Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in geotechnical engineering to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal Service which is defined as demonstrating practical engineering experience for complex projects, independently carry out directives and evaluations, develop information papers, and exercise judgement when interpreting policies and procedures.
