Financial and Budget Technician
What you'd do
This position is located within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), Location Support Staff Unit. The selectee is not required to report to a government office although the option to work in one of the Agency offices may be available. In this position, the incumbent will support and maintain financial management activities and projects through a variety of software systems.
Major duties
Compiles, consolidates, checks, and arranges funding data in requests to cover projected annual operating expenses. Analyzes and prepares special and recurring salary reports which provide status or analytical information to various organizations and levels of management services. Monitors, reviews, analyzes, and verifies salary related data and information to determine whether salary liabilities remain within parameters of established guidelines. Participates in the budget preparation process by compiling,consolidating, checking, and arranging funding data in requests to cover projected annual operating expenses. Establishes and maintains records, files and related documentation that affect salary costs
What you need to qualify
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. GS-05: Qualifying experience for GS-05 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-04 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting with performing budget and financial management tasks including quality control of financial data; and assisting with preparing financial reports or salary reports. OR Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study above high school. Related degrees include accounting, financial management, general business, public administration, and business administration. OR A combination of education and specialized experience. GS-06: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing budget and financial management tasks including quality control of financial data; preparing cost estimates or budgetary data; and operating accounting or financial systems. GS-07: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is preparing financial reports or salary reports; analyzing implications on the reports of overall budgets; and making recommendations to the fundholder. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
