About the Position: This position is located at the 99th Medical Group at Nellis AFB, NV. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Student Loan repayment may be authorized. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Major duties

Compile and maintain a comprehensive database utilizing the Automated Central Tumor Registry (ACTUR) of all patients diagnosed and/or treated for cancer. Review standard and electronic patient medical records. Contact patients, physicians, and other healthcare facilities to update registry follow-up information. Assist in a wide range of quality assurance studies in the Tumor Registry. Perform and maintain quality assurance of case-finding, abstracting, staging, and coding of data and follow-up procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Medical Records Technician (Tumor Registry): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining cancer registry records; coding all appropriate patient data; and assuring accuracy and regulatory compliance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Medical Records Administration or Health Information Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
