About the Position: This position is located within the Social Work section, Substance Abuse Program, Raymond W. Bliss Army Health Center, Fort Huachuca, Arizona. The primary purpose is to perform professional counseling and addiction medicine treatment, supporting patients with alcohol and substance abuse diagnosis.

Major duties

Perform professional counseling and addiction medicine treatment in support of patients with an alcohol and substance abuse diagnosis. Apply complex rehabilitation principles to conduct comprehensive substance use evaluations. Collaborate with management/command officials to identify substance abuse issues. Hold primary case management responsibility for patients, using professional knowledge of outpatient and inpatient addiction medicine programs and alcohol and drug rehabilitation program concepts, principles, procedures, and practices. Conduct ongoing review of patient progress; evaluate and modify treatment plans to meet changing needs. Develop therapeutic relationship with patients whose substance abuse and emotional problems vary in degrees of resistance to treatment, and in ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Document case findings, diagnoses, and recommendations in a clear and concise manner.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Social Worker (Substance Abuse): Degree: Master's degree (or higher degree) in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) conducting clinical assessments of substance abuse patients; 2) formulating behavioral health treatment plans; and 3) providing professional counseling to substance abuse patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Selective Placement Factor: Licensure: A current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Social Work independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction is required.
