What you'd do
This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Major duties
You will prepare timber stands for sale. You will conducting pre-harvest and post-harvest timber marking surveys to ensure that residual timber is of sufficient stocking, size, and quality and is appropriately marked. You will assist with all aspects of reforestation and timber stand improvement. You will perform duties, as qualified, in all phases of forest protection, including but not limited to fire tower operation, prescribed burning and wildland fire suppression. You will assist in other environmental conservation branch programs such as wildlife food plot work, sea turtle monitoring, wildlife surveys, and wildlife viewing area maintenance. You will utilize the Annual Silvicultural Prescription Plan (ASPP), as a guide, to prepare stands of timber scheduled for harvest.
What you need to qualify
GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with wildland fire suppression activities, accurately and efficiently marking, cruising, and calculating volumes of standing timber. Examples of qualifying experience include: Timber marking and recording basic field data during timber cruising. Local dendrology and tree species identification. Reading and interpreting basic maps and aerial photographs. Operating handheld Global Positioning System (GPS) units to collect straightforward field data. Collecting field data in electronic storage systems. GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with wildland fire suppression activities, accurately and efficiently marking, cruising, and calculating volumes of standing timber. Examples of qualifying experience include: Timber marking and recording basic field data during timber cruising. Local dendrology and tree species identification.
