This position is located at the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI and is organizationally aligned under the Communications Division. The position will work within the Graphic Media and Audio Visual department and report directly to the Supervisory Communications Specialist. The primary purpose of this position is to manage and design content for the Medical Center's intranet sites.

Major duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-11. At the GS-9 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-11. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Duties include, but not be limited to the following: Provide oversight and management of the Medical Center's intranet site. Ensure compliance with intranet content policies and will ensure published information is valid and current. Work with web sponsors to manage web content, style, and quality. Determine size, color, use of graphics or photographs, typography and other elements to be incorporated and how it will be reproduced. Serve as a software expert for all graphics programs utilized in the Medical Media program. Develop creative ideas and concepts. Utilize a variety of desktop publishing software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Microsoft Office Suite etc. Create graphics to use on internet/intranet, social media, internal television systems and elsewhere for communication needs. Prepare layouts of web pages, digital media. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday through Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized

The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Possess experience formatting, organizing, and displaying textual and visual materials within internet, intranet and SharePoint sites. -AND- In addition to the above Selective Placement Factor, applicant(s) must meet at least one of the following requirements to qualify. IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-9 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-9: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Visual Information Specialist and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes experience planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.) ~OR~ SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-9: You must have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or two ( 2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or an LL.B. or J.D. (related to the position) from an accredited college or university. Such education must include major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) ~OR~ COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GS-9: You must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, which may be used to meet total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Visual Information Specialist position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE AND COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-11 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-11: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Visual Information Specialist and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes experience planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. Additional Specialized Experience required for the GS-11 level includes editing, publishing, and monitoring submissions; experience selecting the appropriate format or medium for execution, suggesting illustrations for incorporation, designing layout, and converting the result to a finished product suitable for reproduction, web content, social media & electronic or print distribution. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.) ~OR~ SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-11: You must have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited college or university. Such education must include major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) ~OR~ COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GS-11: You must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which may be used to meet total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the Visual Information Specialist position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE AND COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION) Physical Requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary involving sitting at a desk, although the position requires the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another. The incumbent works with a computer screen and keyboard. The employee will spend some time walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs, and carrying some light items. Stamina and concentration to meet crucial deadlines is required.
