What you'd do

As an IT Specialist (Applications Software) with the US Office of Personnel Management, Products and Data Engineering Divisions, you will serve as a senior software engineer responsible for designing, developing, integrating, modernizing, and sustaining enterprise application systems and services that support OPM mission requirements.

Major duties

Design, develop, test, implement, and maintain enterprise application software that supports mission-critical organizational requirements. Lead or support the software development lifecycle using modern development methodologies, including Agile and DevSecOps. Develop and maintain software solutions that integrate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and automation, to improve application functionality. Evaluate and implement tools, frameworks, and platforms to modernize application environments and improve performance. Assess system requirements, technical constraints, and integration needs to develop secure, interoperable, and maintainable application solutions. Troubleshoot and resolve application development, integration, performance, security, or operational issues. Communicate technical information, requirements, risks, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Basic Requirement for the Information Technology Specialist, GS-2210 occupation: You must have Information Technology (IT) related experience demonstrating each of the following competencies:1)Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail;2)Customer Service - Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services;3) Oral Communication - Expresses information to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately; and4) Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations .Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience Minimum Qualifications for GS-13 Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service, or equivalent, performing application software development work that included all of the following: Developing, testing, implementing, or maintaining application software using established programming languages, frameworks, or software engineering tools; Supporting application modernization, system design, or software development efforts by analyzing requirements, documenting design considerations, or drafting technical recommendations; Assisting with the integration of application software with platforms, services, databases, data sources, or other systems; Identifying application development, integration, performance, security, or operational issues and proposing corrective actions for review; and Preparing technical requirements, documentation, recommendations, or implementation options for review by senior technical staff, stakeholders, customers, or technical teams. Minimum Qualifications for the GS-14 Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service performing application software development and modernization that included all of the following: Developing, testing, implementing, or maintaining application software using programming languages, frameworks, or software engineering tools; Supporting application modernization, system design, or software development efforts by recommending technical approaches or design solutions; Integrating application software with platforms, services, databases, data sources, or other systems; Troubleshooting and resolving application development, integration, performance, security, or operational issues; and Communicating technical requirements, risks, recommendations, or implementation options to stakeholders, customers, or technical teams. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
