Major duties
Serves as Chief, Environmental Sciences Division for the Directorate of Public Works. Provides program oversight of activities related to compliance, conservation, restoration and pollution prevention. Supervises and provides professional engineering, physical science, and/or natural and cultural resources management services related to investigating, measuring, and evaluating environmental conditions. Manages the installation environmental program in consonance with applicable federal, state, and U.S. laws and regulations and DoD directive. Conducts on-site evaluations of installation programs and provides professional environmental management consultation. Maintains continuous awareness of current and emerging environmental regulations and policies; assesses their potential impact on the mission and operations, and advises the Installation Commander, Senior Mission Commander, and tenant leadership.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes independently coordinating a complex environmental protection program for an organization; interpreting and applying Federal, State, and local environmental regulations to ensure regulatory compliance; analyzing environmental data and program effectiveness to implement improvements; offering professional guidance on the investigation, measurement, and evaluation of environmental conditions; and reviewing proposed projects and actions to identify potential environmental impacts and recommend mitigation measures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
