Major duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Vandenberg SFB, Lompoc CA is searching for an Electronics Defense Red Switch Network Technician to support SLD 30/SCM (NH-0391-02, GS 05/11 equivalent). Description: We are seeking a highly professional Telecommunications and Secure-Communications Specialist possessing an active CompTIA Security+ credential to support our critical enterprise network operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong, proven foundation in physical cable routing and infrastructure installation, paired with the database programming skills required for system configurations and routing tables. In this role, you will apply your foundational knowledge of COMSEC procedures to maintain system integrity and support high-availability networks. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to advance your technical expertise within a sophisticated enterprise environment. Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate is a highly disciplined secure-communications specialist possessing an active Top Secret clearance and a CompTIA Security+ (or equivalent IAT II) certification. They bring years of hands-on telecommunications experience, specializing in physical cable installation and routing alongside database programming for switch configuration and routing tables. Additionally, they possess foundational knowledge of COMSEC procedures and secure terminal equipment, giving them the necessary skillset to quickly learn and operate specialized secure-voice systems upon completion of sponsor-provided training. Key Skills and Abilities: 1. Knowledge of a wide range of ICT theories, concepts, principles, practices, procedures, policies, standards and operational requirements to include DOD and USSF security policies and guidelines. 2. Knowledge of performance characteristics of ICT equipment, infrastructure, systems, services, and transmission media to develop procedures/policies/practices for local use and evaluate devices, proposals, and approaches. 3. Knowledge of basic electronics theory and operating principles, the application of existing and planned technology to communications requirements, and equipment interoperability and compatibility. 4. Ability to plan, organizes, and prioritizes workload to meet changing and challenging deadlines. 5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to identify, direct, or coordinate actions required in providing needed service. 6. Ability to analyze/apply specialized communication methods, engineering drawings, analytical techniques, and information involving ICT systems and infrastructure (e.g., systems compatibility, circuits, switches, distribution, satellite linkages, and networking). 7. Ability to establish and maintain relationships with key individuals/groups within and outside immediate work unit including field-level representatives. 8. Ability to advise senior leaders, Program Element Monitors and field-level representatives. 9. Skill in using ICT tools, test equipment, computers and operate a motor vehicle. 10. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures such as safety precautions.
