Major duties

An appointment with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia ("the Office") offers unique and challenging experiences for the highly motivated attorneys: an opportunity to work on their own caseload and handle their own trials. Working on Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) matters in the Civil Division, the AUSA represents the United States' interests by investigating and bringing affirmative civil actions, including under the False Claims Act, Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and other statutes and common law causes of action. ACE AUSAs may also handle matters in bankruptcy court. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress..

What you need to qualify

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) and possess superior oral and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills, exhibit good judgment and function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment. Preferred Qualifications: Direct experience litigating civil cases in the federal courts and/or a federal judicial clerkship is desired. Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
