What you'd do

This position serves as Computer Assistant as a developmental position GS-06 located in the Office of Medical Administration Service, Oklahoma City VA HCS, composes a career ladder structure to the Full Performance level of Computer Assistant GS-07.

Major duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the overall planning, coordination, implementation, management, and evaluation of the clinical applications of Secure Messaging. Establishes and/or maintains updated information to the MAS Sharepoint and MAS Dashboard. Awareness of management discussions, decisions, and policy making concerning these vital electronic resources; consults and advises their Supervisor and Service Chief on all related matters. Responsible for specific action item reports assigned by the MAS Supervisor related to other areas of MAS. Engages in outreach planning and activities, including work with potential non-VA community partners to improve care and safety of Veterans healthcare services via initiatives and programming. Maintains a written statement of the and Secure Messaging program mission and scope of services which is developed with program staff and resources. Ensures that and Secure Messaging programs have a facility-wide emergency and disaster contingency plan developed and in place, which incorporates National, Network, and Local standards. Coordinates with all MAS Section Chiefs for input and sharing of electronic information through the MAS SharePoint and MAS Dashboard. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/10/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05, and for a GS-07 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience GS-06: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Knowledge of VHA directives and policies applicable to the, Secure Messaging, MAS SharePoint and MAS Dashboard programs. The work involves gathering information, identifying and analyzing issues, and developing recommendations to resolve substantive problems of effectiveness and efficiency for training operations in a program or program support setting. Issues, problems, or concepts are not always susceptible to direct observation and analysis. Will be required to show substantial levels of flexibility/adaptability, a depth of technical knowledge and skill, and a willingness to operate optimally in a team environment. Knowledge of computer systems and technical aspects of the hardware and software for output/input and analyses of data. Computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access), Familiarity with MAS Computer Programs (VistA, CPRS, Fileman); Familiarity with the computer system used for any shared military facilities; Comprehension of MAS reports. Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and a strong ability to fix common problems as they occur and do advanced troubleshooting or more complicated problems. Knowledge of a wide range of office automation skills and the use of several different software programs to enhance training programs. Interpersonal skills in maintaining effective interpersonal relationships and negotiating solutions with supervisory, professional and non-professional staff, personnel and other services, staff in other VA facilities, other health care facilities and with outside suppliers/vendors.
