What you'd do
About the Position: This position is located at Bassett Army Community Hospital in Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Federal employees in Alaska are currently entitled to receive a 1.49% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change.
Major duties
Perform simple and routine maintenance. Repair wide variety of piping and plumbing fixtures. Paint new lumber and other materials. Operate equipment and hand tools. Drive fork lift to complete various task.
What you need to qualify

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): I have the ability to do the work of Maintenance Worker Helper without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common maintenance helper duties assisting carpenters, plumbers, electricians and painters perform tasks of the trade. I can maintain interior electrical systems and plumbing, utilize basic shop mathematics to assist in repairs, paint surfaces, clean mechanical rooms and operate vehicles, equipment and tools. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Employee works in shops and at job sites. Strenuous physical exertion is often required. Employee may lift and move materials up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally lifts or moves heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Employee is required to stand, stoop, and bend. Work is frequently done from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Working Conditions: Employee is exposed to moderate or high noise levels, sawdust, glue fumes, and other hazards associated with woodworking and related power equipment when performing work in the shop area. Work at job sites exposes employee to weather conditions and the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. Employee is subject to cuts, bruises and contusions. May be required to work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics, which may be dusty and dirty. Protective devices, such as, but not limited to, ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat and steel toes safety shoes are required.
