What you'd do

This position is located in the Office of Information and Technology, End User Services, End User Operations. The Supervisory IT Specialist provides leadership and resource management (finance, human, and acquisition), leading the development and implementation of strategies required to manage IT End User Operations. They oversee the day-to-day operations, services, maintenance, and security for all customers within the immediate geographic area.

Major duties

Major Duties: Coordinates, communicates, integrates, and is accountable for the overall success of the program, ensuring alignment with agency or enterprise priorities. Manages the package of support functions required to field and maintain the readiness and operational capability of systems and components. Conducts evaluations of an IT program or its individual components to determine compliance with published standards. Performs needs analysis to identify opportunities for new and improved business process solutions. Reviews and conducts audits of information technology (IT) programs and projects. Develops methods to monitor and measure risk, compliance, and assurance efforts. Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Tour of duty may be subject to change based on organizational needs. Compressed/Flexible: As determined by the Agency Policy Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. Adhoc telework may be authorized at management discretion. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. Travel requirement is up to 25% of the time. Some employees may carry light items, such as papers, books, or small parts, or drive a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special physical effort. Working Conditions: The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Employee may occasionally be exposed to uncomfortable conditions in such places as research and production. Designated Drug Testing Position: Not Applicable

What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/10/2026. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Basic Requirements Experience: Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the five competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-13 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as: providing technical advice and guidance on complex information technology programs; planning, implementing, and evaluating IT policies, programs, or operations; overseeing enterprise IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and systems management; analyzing program performance and recommending improvements; ensuring compliance with federal IT policies and standards; and supervising or leading multidisciplinary teams in support of organizational mission requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
