What you'd do
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The Program Coordinator directs the administrative and clinical aspects of the Suicide Prevention Program across Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS). Duties may include but not limited to: Interpret and write policies, procedures and program guidelines in the development, planning, operations, and continuous performance improvement of the program. Collaborate with other departments to manage the use of data related to these programs regarding day-to-day functioning, effectiveness, and program evaluation. Responsible for the clinical and administrative operation of the program, as well as education and training of staff, in conjunction with other VA professionals. Form a cohesive team of staff from a variety of disciplines and supervisory chains of authority to provide an effective, recovery-oriented treatment program. Responsible for the management of computer-based flagging systems for identifying high risk patients. Responsible for all VISN and Central Office requests for information about suicide training or any data about suicide behavior incidents. Interface with CAVHCS Police, Officer of the Inspector General and Coordinated Care Programs to manage patients with suicide behavior. Provide expert consultation with treatment providers regarding management of suicidal patients. Responsible for the education, training, and implementation of local and national policies pertaining to suicide behavior. Has contacts on a regular and recurring basis with individuals representing widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of view. Serves on Medical Center or healthcare system, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces. Represent the Medical Center at professional community group/events and committees, in conferences/meetings with higher ranking managers, supervisors, and staff from other disciplines or work units, and/or with representatives of local public interest groups, congressional district offices and employees of State and local governments. Prepare Issue Briefs and responses to Congressional inquiries as needed. Provides the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action. Provide a full range of psychosocial services, including assessment and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care. Consults with and serves as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for and development of suicide prevention efforts. Must possess a thorough knowledge and have experience in use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures, including acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology. Provide clinical consultation and clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training including Nurses, Social Workers, RT, Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists, Peer Support Specialists, and Psychologists. Provide leadership, guidance, and consultation on staff education and development. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m. Work Schedule Subject to change based on agency needs. What you need to qualify
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/. Failure to Obtain License or Certification. In all cases, social workers must actively pursue meeting state prerequisites for licensure or certification starting from the date of their appointment. Failure to become licensed or certified within the prescribed amount of time will result in removal from the GS-0185 social worker series and may result in termination of employment Loss of Licensure or Certification. Once licensed or certified, social workers must maintain a full, valid, and unrestricted independent license or certification to remain qualified for employment. Loss of licensure or certification will result in removal from the GS-0185 social worker series and may result in termination of employment. Grandfathering Provision. The following is the standard grandfathering policy for all title 38 hybrid qualification standards. Please carefully review the qualification standard to determine the specific education and/or licensure/certification/registration requirements that apply to this occupation. English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Social Worker (Program Coordinator) GS 13 Experience and Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. (b) Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. (c) Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. (d) Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). (e) Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 13. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position are minimal. The physical work is generally sedentary. However, there will be some (10-25% of the time) regional travel for support purposes. The stress related to providing services to Veterans who experience mental health, physical and psychosocial complexity or who may be demanding and uncooperative can be more significant than that of most sedentary positions.
