About the Position: This position is located at the US ARMY YUMA PROVING GROUND SAFETY DIRECTORATE with a duty location of YUMA PROVING GROUND / YUMA / ARIZONA. Serves as the Safety & Occupational Health Specialist GS -0018-12 (merit)

Major duties

Conduct compliance inspections of activity worksites to identify operational, facility, or system safety and occupational health deficiencies. Evaluate and advise on safety and occupational health surveillance and enforcement programs to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and OSHA safety standards. Review safety training programs to ensure compliance with standards, policies, and regulations. Investigate accidents and incidents causing injury or property damage and hazardous conditions that may cause serious injury or death. Determine origin, causes, and/or contributing elements associated with safety and health violations. Analyze mishap trends to determine a need for additional safety training for both Military and Civilian personnel. Implement/monitor comprehensive ammunition, explosives, industrial, radiation, range safety and occupational health management programs in support of ATEC test missions. Conduct safety risk assessments of chemical, electrical, and physical worksite safety hazards and develop procedures to mitigate and/or eliminate those hazards. Develop/ implement accident prevention programs designed to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses in support of ATEC test missions.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Experience utilizing safety and occupational health policies, procedures, and regulations in support of the ATEC test mission. 2.) investigate/analyze accidents for the purpose of determining root cause and contributing factors. 3.) Preparation of educational and training material to promote workplace safety awareness. and 4.) Utilize software programs to prepare accident trend charts, reports, and briefings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower level/grade position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Compliance Inspection Mishap/Accident Investigation Physical Hazards Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
