What you'd do

You will serve as a PHYSICIST/OCEANOGRAPHER/MATHEMATICIAN in the OCEAN PROJECTS DEPARTMENT (N9) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Major duties

You will serve as a senior level expert in resolving acoustic numerical modeling problems and validating ambient noise, transmission loss, and reverberation measurements You will represent the Division at high-level meetings where he or she defends the results of Division work and presents controversial proposals describing new plans and initiatives. You will prepare comprehensive written reports and provides succinct oral briefings on work performed by the division. You will perform as the Senior NAVOCEANO Representative (SNR) on T-AGS ships. You will serve as Party Chief on foreign vessels and leads teams of other scientists and engineers during field operations for the collection of data and information supporting Division objectives.

What you need to qualify

(For GS -1310-13) In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience identifying ambient noise data, determining the cause of the noise, and certifying the data for Navy use. Experience presenting data findings to leadership, detailing key data points found by junior scientists. Experience identifying boundary value problems and finding a solution. (For GS -1310-12) In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience reading wave propagations to analyze incoming transmission loss, ambient noise, and reverberation instruments. Experience in assisting senior level physicists in assessing how current mathematical boundary value solutions match real-world physical acoustic data in shallow and deep water. Experience drafting written reports detailing the results of physical acoustic instruments. Resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience identifying and resolving data reading malfunctions caused by oceanographic models and acoustic models. Experience in integrating classified data into shallow-water and deep-water geophysical databases. Experience assigning work to junior level oceanographers, ensuring data is being accurately read within established guidelines and laws. (For GS -1360-12) In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience analyzing data bearing on shallow and deep-water models. Experience utilizing different methods for mapping non-standard shallow environments. Experience monitoring data feeds to ensure the seafloor is being mapped without data gaps. Resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience identifying and resolving algorithm discrepancies as it relates to acoustic numerical modeling. Experience collaborating with physicists to diagnose and resolve critical numerical instabilities in acoustic boundary value equations that produced physically impossible, "negative" sound intensities, restoring mathematical and physical integrity to the propagation model. Experience designing and implementing machine learning algorithms to automatically extract and classify geophysical seabed properties. (For GS -1520-12) In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Resume must demonstrate the following specialized experience: Experience running shallow and deep-water numerical models utilizing data gathered from oceanographers and physicists. Experience formatting data sets so they can be processed by shallow water modeling software. Experience utilizing MATLAB to create code used for acoustic readings.
