Lead Medical Support Assistant
What you'd do
The incumbent serves as a Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) at the Oscar G. Johnson VAMC. MSA's at the GS-7 grade performs duties related to scheduling appointments and consults, clinic check-in, eligibility and benefits, answering telephones, beneficiary travel, insurance capture and means testing, data and report preparation, and other clerical duties.

Ensuring proper staffing coverage of all areas of responsibility. Conducting ongoing reviews and audits to ensure quality of work. Resolves daily workplace issues. Maintains efficient workflow found in an interdisciplinary unit. Ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments. Providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures, distributing and balancing workload. Orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees. Evaluating training records to ensure all training requirements are met, as well as determining training needs of MSAs and AMSAs to provide support across interdisciplinary settings. Acting as liaison between MSAs/AMSAs and other staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts. Other duties as assigned. What you need to qualify

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Experience: None Education: High School Diploma, General Education Development equivalency certificate, or proficiency certificate from a State or territorial-level Board or Department of Education. Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. English Language Proficiency: MSA's must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. Grade Determinations: Lead Medical Support Assistant, GS-07 Experience: One year of creditable experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-06) AND Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: KSA-1. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect, ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations. KSA-2. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. KSA-3. Ability to provide staff development and training. KSA-4. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage priorities, and coordinate with staff in the unit in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely manner. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work. KSA-5. Ability to review and monitor data to ensure all reports are complete and accurate. Physical demands do not exceed those of a typical office setting. There may be some walking, standing twisting, turning, sitting, pushing, bending, repetitive keyboarding, or carrying of light items. Some positions may require sitting for long periods of time at a computer terminal typing data while talking on a telephone headset.
