What you'd do

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, San Juan Regional Office (RO), Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Operations Center, which is a remote Veterans Service Center. Due to high volume of applicants, the first 75 applicants will receive first consideration. Additional applicants, beyond the first 75, may be considered, upon management 's request. Due to high volume of applicants, not all applicants will be considered.

Major duties

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Identifies expeditious processing of claims to minimize under/overpayments i.e. changes in dependency, Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) write-outs, etc. Makes determinations as to eligibility for type of benefits sought and fully analyzes, develops and requests pertinent evidence for rating related claims. Decides the necessity for and type of exams, reexaminations or opinions to determine the existence of or to evaluate disabilities resulting from disease or injury. Develops comprehensive requests for these examinations/opinions to ensure appropriate evidence is received from which to adjudicate the claim. Prepares correspondence to private attorneys; acknowledges and revokes designations of private attorneys. Utilizes various electronic data processing systems for inputting data related to claims adjudication, processing, monitoring_ and correspondence preparation. Adjudicates award actions for compensation benefits to include release of retroactive, suspended, resumed, or terminated awards. Authorizes, reviews and approves the pending award action for technical accuracy, clarity and thoroughness. Prepares Statements of the Case for authorization appeals. Prepares administrative decisions relating to Character of Discharge (COD), contested claims, line of duty, administrative error, etc. Mentors and develops Veteran Service Representative (VSR) Trainees. What you need to qualify

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement:07/14/2026. TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-10 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Specialized Experience: One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (10). Specialized experience is defined as: The ability to request relevant medical or administrative evidence to make eligibility determinations. Experience analyzing medical evidence, benefit and/or legal evidence to identify and recognize required actions for claim development and adjudication. Experience in explaining program benefit entitlements and requirements. Technical assignments related to claims or benefits processing or eligibility determinations. The interpretation of laws, rules and/or regulations and the analysis of documents to determine eligibility for benefits, quality assurance or perform auditor functions. OR Education Substitution: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. (Must submit transcripts.) OR Combining Education & Experience: If you do not fully meet the length of experience and education described for a specific grade level (e.g. have six months of experience and some coursework but not a degree), the two can be combined to total 100% of the requirement. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Full vs. Part-Time Employment: Full-time employment is considered to be at least 35 hours per week. Part-time experience will be credited on a pro-rated basis; when including part-time employment in your resume you must specify the average hours worked per week. Physical Requirements: The work normally involves mental rather than physical exertion. The work is mostly sedentary.
