This vacancy is for a GS-1801-13, DISTRICT PORT STATE CONTROL PRGM SPEC located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, D8 INSPECTIONS and INVESTIGATIONS BRANCH -DPI in NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana.

Major duties

You will serve as a/an DISTRICT PORT STATE CONTROL PRGM SPEC and be responsible for coordinating all Port State Control and vessel arrival activities in the District's area of responsibility. . Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Serves as the primary representative withing the Heartland District on all matters related to the inspection of foreign flag vessels and vessels within the District Provides technical review of vessel and vessel's equipment plans and specs to determine compliance with US laws, regulations, international conventions and other applicable standards Provides policy guidance, consultative services and technical assistance for implementing laws, treaties, regulations and standards regarding port state control inspections and vessel arrivals Establishes and maintains continuing liaison and cooperative relations with other federal, state and local agencies to promote acceptance and understanding of USCG laws, regulations, standards and objectives Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application. What you need to qualify

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Qualified Marine Inspector to include towing vessels and flag state vessels Review technical drawings of vessels and vessel systems for evaluating compliance with regulations and standard Engage with others to promote USCG regulations and laws pertaining to flagged vessels NOTE: All experience statements (i.e., duties, specialized experience, or related applicable assessment) copied from this announcement and pasted into your resume will not be considered as a demonstration of your qualifications for this position.
