What you'd do
This position, located at the Ernest Childers VA Outpatient Clinic, Tulsa, OK, serves as a Transportation Assistant and is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, implementation, management and evaluation of clinical applications of patient transportation with particular emphasis on improving care and safety of Veterans.
Major duties
Major duties of this position include but are not limited to... Communicates and interacts with patients and their family members in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and geriatric patient Prepares data processing report for daily batch review Transfers Beneficiary Travel voucher daily batch to Fiscal Office Process receipts and withdraws for Patient Funds in Veterans Personal Finance System Evaluates all aspects of fraud research and prevention in accordance with VA policy Corrects discrepancies between Veterans Personal Finance System and Financial Management System balances Reviews eligibility of each Veteran before scheduling Special Mode Transportation, including review of CPRS Bene-Travel consults Compiles and submits daily clerk report summarizing all vouchers processed, phone calls, and customer service interactions Attends to all details of voucher processing to prevent the processing of fraudulent claims Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Telework: This position may be authorized for AD-HOC telework. What you need to qualify
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/15/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 level. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade of GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to....knowledgeable of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) directive and policies applicable to beneficiary travel voucher and claim processing, clerk reporting, batch processing and review; knowledge of and ability to apply extensive transportation regulations, methods and practices to perform a wide variety of interrelated or non-standard transportation support assignments; ability to resolve a wide range of problems; ability to coordinate special mode transportation needs for Veteran patients; knowledge of how to extract information and mileage from online map services; ability to interpret contracts for transportation services; knowledge of how to organize and maintain documentation and records supporting beneficiary travel reimbursements and vendor payments; ensures compliance with procedures for obligating travel funds; knowledge of the review process to make determination on ambulance bills and if the request for payment is legitimate; knowledge of beneficiary travel reimbursements, includes funds for mileage payments, airline tickets, etc.; and knowledgeable of the review process for special transportation to Veterans requiring unusual accommodations, including air ambulance when required, and ensuring the most cost-effective manner is used.
