What you'd do
This temporary promotion may be extended up to a total of 5 years. The selectee may be returned, at any time, to the position from which temporarily promoted or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay.
Major duties
As a Secretary (Office Automation) to the United States Attorney (USA) for the Western District of Wisconsin, you will provide a wide variety of technical and administrative support services. Typical work assignments will include: Performing high-level secretarial and administrative support functions; Representing the USA when addressing leading figures with the government, business, law enforcement community, members of the media, and others; Making travel arrangements and securing accommodations for the USA; Composing a variety of written material and reports that vary in subject matter and format; Exercising exclusive control over the USA's calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences with complete authority for commitment of time; Reviewing all incoming and outgoing correspondence (e.g. memoranda, legal documents, and reports); and Arranging conferences and meetings for the USA, preparing agendas, notifying participants, and arranging luncheons.
What you need to qualify
GS-10: To be eligible at the GS-10 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is defined as serving as an executive secretary to a senior executive (such as a Chief Executive Officer, senior officer in a large firm, or equivalent) and performing a wide range of high-level secretarial and administrative support functions in a legal environment. Examples of specialized experience include managing the schedule, travel, commitments and correspondence of the executive; arranging high level meetings; developing and modifying office procedures; dealing with senior executives (such as officials of the state and federal government, national or international corporations, and public interest groups); developing background information and writing introductions, speeches and closing remarks to be presented by an attorney at meetings, conferences and other speaking engagements. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)
